Programme of activities for Festes Major - Freginals

Following is a list of the activities for the Festes which starts on Tuesday 18th August, and runs to Monday 24th August 2009.

Tuesday 18th August
6pm - Football competition at the sports area

Wednesday 19th August
6pm - Bicycle ride around the country lanes, meet at the fountain in the village
10.30pm - Play by the school children of the village at the main festes area (School grounds)
12 midnight - Treasure hunt by torchlight around the village - under 12's to be with an adult, you will need paper, a pen and torch with you.

Thursday 20th August
11.30am - Photography exhibition near the fountain in the village square
12 noon - throwing of sweets - in the church square
12.30pm - Opening of a new exhibition looking at traditional life in Montsia
11pm - Official presentation of the festes queen and attendants in the main festes area
12 midnight - Dance in honour of the queen

Friday 21st August
11.30am - Painting for children in the fountain square
12 noon - Clown and magician entertainment near to the church
6pm - Kart race around the village, if entering a kart, please use helmets and other safety equipment
7pm - Church service
8pm - Tea with entertainment by a folk group from Reus in main festes area
11pm - Correfoc with the devils from Jesus (please wear sports shoes, long trousers, and a top with full sleeves and a head covering. All clothes should be made of natural fibres)
1am - Dance
2pm Night disco for the teenagers etc

Saturday 22nd August
10.30am Bouncy Castles etc in the village for the children
1.30pm Paella Popular in the main festes area (tickets required 3 euros each from the ajuntament)
5.30pm - Bicycles and motorbike games outside the ajuntament, followed by a collection for cancer research
7.30pm - Church service
11.30pm - Dance in main festes area (Latin music)

Sunday 23rd August
12 noon - Church service, followed by the blessing of vehicles
4.30pm - Birles competition on the birles pitch
5.30pm - Breaking of the pots for the children, followed by hot chocolate (no venue given, but was next to birles pitch last year)
9pm - Bull stew in the main festes area (tickets required 3 euros each from the ajuntament)
10.30pm - Dance

Monday 24th August (Day of Saint Bartolomew - Patron of the village)
10.15am - Brass band of Masdenverge procession around the village
11am - Offering of fruit and flowers at the casa de culture near the ajuntament
11.15am - Church service in honour of the patron church with the choir of Montsia
7pm - Solomn procession around the village (no vehicles to be left in the main street at this time)
8pm - Concert in the fountain square of the band from Masdenverge
11.30pm - Dance, with the presentation of trophies to the winners of the competitions held thoughout festes.

I understand (unconfirmed) that the tickets for the village festes major go on sale this evening from 7p at the ajuntament.

Doctor Holidays

Please note that after tomorrow, Wednesday 15th July 2009 the usual Doctor who attends the surgery in the Village will be on annual holiday.

His next surgery will be on Monday 27th Jul 2009.

A replacement Doctor will be taking his surgeries in the village at the usual time of 11am to 1pm until that time.

Fiesta San Joan

Please note tonight Tuesday 23rd June 2009 the fiesta of San Joan is celebrated with fireworks and bonfires everywhere. Although the actual fiesta day is tomorrow Wednesday 24th June 2009.

This means that many shops and businesses may close early today, and tomorrow is a public holiday where most shops, banks, and doctors etc will be closed. This takes place throughout the whole of Spain.

Re: Impost bens Immobles Urbana tax invoices

Following a meeting I had with BASE yesterday. If anyone has received one of the above invoices, either for this year or previous years, I would be grateful if you could get in touch with me either by email at laacademia@hotmail.co.uk or by telephone on 65246769.

The purpose of this is to discuss the implications of this tax, as if you have received one of these invoices it means that you have a legal house, but the ajuntament must supply certain services to these houses, which at present we are not getting, also these invoices are for larger amounts that the houses in the village of similar sizes. BASE state that is is not just to charge these amounts, but it is down to the local ajuntament and must be taken up with them, as they have a legal obligation to us, if they are going to tax us at these rates.

The plan is to meet to discuss this, and then take our requests to the Mayor. I have secured a Catalan national of the same political party as the mayor in Freginals to act as our spokesperson at this meeting.

Doctors Visits this week - 15th - 19th June 2009

This week the doctor has 3 changes to his regular surgery time:-

Monday 15th, Wednesday 17th, and Friday 19th June the doctor will be in the village at 1pm, and not his usual time.
